HEALTH PROMOTION OFFICER

An opportunity is now available for people interested in health promotion to engage with the local community to promote good health and well being as part of an established team. Aboriginal Health Promotion Development Officer

This is a newly funded position that will contribute to and support the development, implementation and evaluation of Aboriginal health programs, which address the public health priorities relating to chronic disease to improve health outcomes. The Aboriginal Health Promotion Development officer will be responsible for identifying the health needs of the community, and developing and implementing health promotion activities.

This position is part of a WA Aboriginal Health Promotion Collaborative Project led by the Aboriginal Health Council of WA and Curtin University in partnership with DYHS and a number of health promotion organisations. This position incorporates a training program with Curtin University (Graduate Certificate of Health Promotion or Graduate Diploma of Health Promotion) - the applicant will undertake this training over 2008 -2009.

The position is based at DYHS. Essential criteria include qualification in Aboriginal Primary Care, valid “Working with Children Check” and “C” class driver’s license, and be a non-smoker. The position is for 2 years fixed term.

Operator Traineeships

This is an exciting opportunity for local people to receive training in a dynamic, challenging environment where safety, production targets and plant availability must be balanced in the most efficient way. The traineeship would ideally suit a person who has proven success in their current role but is wanting a career change and has demonstrated commitment to living and working in the Pilbara.

The structured two-year operator traineeship program will be conducted at the Woodside-operated Onshore Gas Plant at Karratha.

Successful applicants will gain extensive technical knowledge on hydrocarbon processing systems, develop skills to operate process facilities as well as demonstrate mechanical aptitude in a field support role. Training will involve both on the job and traditional classroom based learning.

On successful completion of the training, participants will receive a Certificate III in Process Plant Operations (PMA 30102), which is recognised in the Australian Hydrocarbon Industry. Applicants from diverse career backgrounds, female and indigenous applicants are encouraged to apply.

Griffith University is assisting Qantas to find appropriate interested members of the Australian Indigenous community to join the Qantas Cadet Pilot Program. The program identifies highly motivated and talented individuals and trains them to be Qantas Pilots.

The Process involves a rigorous selection process to be appointed as a Cadet. Following appointment as a cadet the successful individuals are trained as commercial Pilots (there are several ways this can happen and this is explained in detail on the Qantas Web site www.qantas.com.au).

Successful Cadets are then offered a position in the Cadet Industry Placement program, which places cadets as First Officers (Co-Pilots) in Regional Airlines such as Qantas Link. These First Officers are paid by the airline in which they are placed as First Officers. After 2 years of successful experience in this industry placement program the cadets may be selected as Trainee second officers with Qantas Mainline on either the A380 or the 747.

Menzies and the University of Queensland are collaborating to fund and supervise a research fellowship for 2 years based at Menzies in the Royal Darwin Hospital campus.

The position provides a unique opportunity to analyse and interpret data from the Aboriginal Birth Cohort (ABC) Study which began in 1987. This exciting research program is recognized internationally as one of the oldest and largest indigenous studies of the life-course processes that influence the development of chronic adult disease. From birth, extensive medical, biochemical and anthropometric information has been collected at various intervals and is
currently available in stored datasets.

We are seeking a self motivated and innovative researcher to study in the first instance the tracking of anthropometric measures and biomedical markers from childhood to young adult life. We would like the applicants to have clinical insight, statistical skills, the capacity to produce academic publications, and Post-doctoral qualifications, or a Masters in Epidemiology. We expect the successful candidate to apply for further research funding during this appointment to continue work with this project.

  • Negotiate sensitive and confidential community and individual circumstances and events in assisting with complaints, conciliations, and investigations (negotiation skills and tact);
  • Coordinate and deliver training and information sessions for organisations and communities who need information about the HQCC’s services (organising and presenting);
  • Review literature, policy and data to identify issues and develop innovative approaches and processes to progress HQCC goals (critical analysis and creativity);
  • Use expert written skills to communicate in a range of settings in styles that are sensitive, appropriate and effective for the context (written communication).

  • Coordinates and compiles responses for statistical information and Directorate reports and audits.
  • Drafts correspondence and briefings for the Directorate.

Your responsibilities include:

Bar Attendant – All Corporate Areas

This is a multi skilled position that may vary due to the Corporate needs on the day. Duties can include basic bar, cash register and cash handling, efficient in opening bottles of wine, tray and floor work, restocking, stock rotation and general cleaning. Knowledge of “RSA” Responsible Service of Alcohol is essential (training is provided).

Kitchen Assistant

Kitchen Assistants are responsible for assisting our chefs with food production and preparation in our kitchens on match days. You must have experience in food handling procedures and be confident when operating commercial size cooking equipment such as salamanders, deep fryers and microwave ovens.

Dish washer

This job is fundamental to a smooth running kitchen. As a Dishwasher you are responsible for the operation of commercial size dish washing machines and assist with the organising of cleaning and storing of all crockery, cutlery and cooking equipment. You are also required to assist with general cleaning of the kitchens. Experience is not necessary, just bring along your work ethic and elbow grease.

Telephonist

Telephonists are responsible for taking orders from our VIP Box clientele. You need to have a friendly and professional telephone manner and be able to write clearly and concisely, as you are responsible for billing clients and finalising their accounts. POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Indigenous Art Code Manager

Purpose of position

To manage the continued development and implementation of the Indigenous Australian Art Commercial Code of Conduct, a national industry code of standards for the commercial relationships between Indigenous artists and the marketplace.

Main areas of responsibility

This position is primarily responsible for:
· Industry liaison and research leading to the finalisation of the Code rules and standards
· Strengthening industry ownership of the Code and working with the industry to ensure its promotion and dissemination
· liaising with key industry and government stakeholders on determining and implementing strategies for Code sign up, compliance and sanctions procedures
· making public presentations about the Code and its associated activities
· providing secretariat services to the Code Administration Committee
· reporting to project funding agencies and partners
· determining the ongoing resource needs of the Code and associated strategies and working with other NAVA staff to promote their future financial viability.

Special criteria

This position is funded to employ an Indigenous person. The successful candidate will be required to provide confirmation of their Indigenous identity before a formal job offer is made.

Major areas of responsibility

1. Establish and manage the Code Administration Committee Secure appropriate members for the committee; organise meetings; set meeting agendas and take minutes; carry through actions as determined.
2. In consultation with the Code Administration Committee, finalise the Code rules and administrative procedures including the approach to complaints handling, options for in-house compliance systems, options for sanctions for non-compliance.
3. Develop strategies to achieve consumer and industry awareness of the Code.
4. Implement processes for Code take up and the monitoring of its impact.
5. Make regular reports on the progress of the Code and whether the standards are meeting industry expectations.
6. Work with specific sections of the industry to encourage Code awareness and compliance.
7. Liaise with the ACCC on the effectiveness of the Code.
8. Negotiate a cross industries agreement with the tourism industry.
9. Manage NAVA’s relationships with Code funding agencies.
10. Monitor NAVA’s role in being responsible for the Code.
11. In association with NAVA staff, seek resources for the Code’s ongoing operations.
12. Liaise with the industry on the Code and attend meetings of industry networks related to the project and its outcomes.

Experience and skills required

Essential

The applicant will need to demonstrate:
· proven project management experience and/or legal experience

ROLE STATEMENT

The appointee to this position will follow established Security Procedures and patrol and protect persons and property on the University of Western Australia Campus.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Act as an Authorised Officer of the University of Western Australia Land By-Laws.

The Deadly Yarns 4 Indigenous Short Film Initiative provides financial and developmental support to WA Indigenous filmmakers. The initiative will select 5 short films, to be developed and produced and then broadcast nationally on the ABC Message Stick program. The attachment position will work alongside the Deadly Yarns Coordinator at FTI. The aim of the attachment is to give an opportunity for the applicant to develop their skills in arts administration and production support.

The successful applicant will be involved in the selection panel process of the Deadly Yarns 4 film projects; the organisation of the developmental workshops; as well as during the subsequent contracting and production process of the selected five projects.

Please note: As the Deadly Yarns 4 Short Film Initiative is designed to enhance opportunities and develop skills for Indigenous filmmakers in Western Australia, the applicant must also be both Indigenous and West Australian.

The position will start in July 2008 at an average of 2 days per week until June 2009. Please note: there may be peak periods where more than 2 days per week are required. Job Description

Aboriginal students comprise an important proportion of the Department’s student population. They are represented across the State with large numbers in particular country regions and in remote areas. Aboriginal staff employed by the Department potentially can render a positive mentoring, support and pastoral role to Aboriginal students to ensure their academic success and their social and community wellbeing.

The Department is committed to employing more Aboriginal staff and providing them with career progression opportunities that will enable them to make a valuable contribution to ensuring quality educational outcomes for all Aboriginal students.

To enable the attainment of these outcomes, the Department has developed Culture Strong, Career Proud Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Employment Strategy 2008-2010. In particular the development and implementation of an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Workforce Support Program to support the Department, in the attraction of additional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees (including teaching staff) and retaining existing staff. The plan contains specific goals and targets that support and encourage Aboriginal staff and provide them with opportunities for professional development and career advancement in their employment with the Department.

Culture Strong, Career Proud Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Employment Strategy 2008-2010 contains a number of imperatives for the Department that must be delivered over the next three years and is part of the Department’s Equity and Diversity Management Plan.

The Project Officers Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Employment Workforce Support Program are responsible for developing coordinating, administering and enabling employment and career advancement initiatives for Aboriginal staff contained in the Plan. Functions in the position include:
  • Identifying the principal employment and career advancement strategies in Culture Strong, Career Proud Strategy and establishing the necessary measures that will contribute to securing the desired outcomes; including coordinating and delivering targeted support to the Bachelor of Conversion Course for AIEOs Program and graduate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander teachers.
  • Develop positive collaborative partnerships with other Directorates and Districts to support the Strategy’s implementation.
  • Providing a liaison, consultancy and advisory role to Aboriginal staff to enable them to access professional and career advancement programs that are specified in the Culture Strong, Career Proud Strategy and others that reflect the ethos and mission of the Department;
  • Developing, planning, monitoring and evaluating programs to deliver and achieve objectives in the Strategy.
  • Implementing and establishing arrangements that encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participation in these programs under the Culture Strong, Career Proud Strategy.
  • Participating in committees and working parties in respect to the Workforce Support Program.
  • Contributing to the review, development and implementation of the Department’s Equity and Diversity Management Plan.
  • Identifying issues and needs in the area of Aboriginal employment and diverse strategies to address these needs.

The program allows the trainees to work with a host employer, complete a Certificate 2 in Business Services while completing their HSC. The AES is seeking a highly motivated and well organised individual to manage the program in Western Australia.
