Your opportunity
To work with us to facilitate the Health Quality and Complaints Commission’s (HQCC’s) engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, organisations and individuals.
Your key responsibilities
The Indigenous Liaison Coordinator (Identified) will:
- Lead the ongoing implementation and review of the HQCC’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander engagement strategy;
- Assist HQCC Units and Staff to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations, communities, and individuals;
- Provide specialist advice and assistance to HQCC Units and Staff (particularly to complaints, conciliation, and investigations officers) in their dealings with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations, communities, and individuals;
- Research and prepare advice and submissions relating to the provision of health services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people;
- Develop and maintain a stakeholder database and liaison network of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations and individuals;
- Lead the design, coordination, delivery and evaluation of training and information sessions to a range of stakeholders about the work of the HQCC;
- Assist communications staff in developing promotional and educational material for use in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities;
- Undertake other duties as required.
Are you the right person for this job?
This position has a genuine and identified requirement that the occupant be an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person as permitted under Sections 25, 104, and 105 of the Anti-Discrimination Act (1991).(Qld). This is necessary for the successful performance of the key responsibilities of the job.
The right person for this job will be acceptable to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as a member of the Indigenous Community, and will have a sound knowledge of the issues affecting relationships between the Indigenous and mainstream communities. She or he will be able to:
- Facilitate the relationships of HQCC Units and staff with external communities, organisations and individuals (community engagement, communication and facilitation);
- Rapidly acquire an understanding of the HQCC Act, HQCC operating environment, complaints services operation and Indigenous health issues to be able to assist Units and staff across the HQCC (research and self-directed learning);
- Negotiate sensitive and confidential community and individual circumstances and events in assisting with complaints, conciliations, and investigations (negotiation skills and tact);
- Coordinate and deliver training and information sessions for organisations and communities who need information about the HQCC’s services (organising and presenting);
- Review literature, policy and data to identify issues and develop innovative approaches and processes to progress HQCC goals (critical analysis and creativity);
- Use expert written skills to communicate in a range of settings in styles that are sensitive, appropriate and effective for the context (written communication).
