We are seeking a person with initiative and aptitude to join a team of officers performing security/access control and emergency response services in a stimulating and challenging workplace. The appointee will be required to work weekends and public holidays and be required to rotate across shifts. ROLE STATEMENT

The appointee to this position will follow established Security Procedures and patrol and protect persons and property on the University of Western Australia Campus.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Act as an Authorised Officer of the University of Western Australia Land By-Laws.
  • Conduct security patrols of buildings and grounds, and other duties in accordance with the Security Procedures Manual.
  • Monitor after hours movement of persons and vehicles on Campus and take whatever measures necessary to provide a safer environment on the Campus.
  • Respond to emergencies on the Campus, and report urgent maintenance matters.
  • Provide information and advise to staff, students and visitors regarding security and after-hours access to buildings and ensure their safety on Campus
  • Conduct on-the-job training and mentoring of new Security staff
  • Analyse Security Equipment malfunctions and undertake initial on-site assessment
  • Rotate through shifts and patrol on and off Campus areas as detailed in the Security Roster.
  • Other duties as directed

SPECIFIC WORK CAPABILITIES (SELECTION CRITERIA): (Minimum requirements to perform the duties of the position e.g. Certificate of Secondary Education).

Confident and proficient in working without supervision and the ability to interact with a diverse range of people

Competent in dealing with emergency situations and conflict resolution

Security Officer related background, and knowledge of fire and emergency procedures, control panels, security access systems and computers

Experience in working as part of a small team and providing on-the-job training

Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position

Current National Police Clearance Certificate

“C” Class Driver’s Licence

National Standard Security Qualification (Minimum Security Certificate II)

Senior First Aid Certificate * (see note below)

* Note: It is a condition of employment that if the qualification is not currently held, the successful applicant must undertake to acquire the qualification at the earliest possible time after appointment
