Optometry Scholarship

..know of any Indigenous person interested in optometry?

Dear All,

My optometrist, Mr Graham Fist, an elderly man of around 70 is totally passionate about assisting Aboriginal people with eye care and has written to Noel Pearson on this. Graham's involved with various organisations and he's a member of the Lion's Institute board. One day he explained that the Lion's institute have been trying to identify an Aboriginal person who is interested in becoming an optometrist to work with their people. As yet to no avail. There is a scholarship. The belief is that if they could identify an Indigenous person to work with communities, that Indigenous eye health care would highly improve - basically much better outcomes than current.

Graham's details are: Tel - 9321 3333 ; Fax - 9321 8860. He and his wife run their optometrist rooms from the Pacific Foyer, 305 Murray Street, Perth. You can either contact me or call or pop in and see Graham direct. He'd be more than happy to talk to you. Graham and his wife are lovely, gentle hearted people. Graham was telling me about a woman, anthropologist I think, who regularly visits communities and is seriously concerned with the food provided by the stores in these locations and relates bad diet to eye problems as well as general health and well being.
For anyone interested a good chat to be had - and an opportunity for an Indigenous person interested in the field of eye care - optometry.

Enjoy your week

Kind regards
Annaliza
